Team Development:

With every March comes the trade deadline and each team in the RSHL has to analyse their position heading into the play-offs and determine whether they need some help going down the stretch. The Senators did just that, identified some weaknesses on defence and went out and got some help.

With the Sens powerplay looking as bad as it does this season management thought it would be prudent to go out and get some offensive defenceman at the deadline. So on the eve of the deadline the Senators trade some draft picks to pick up Nathan Dempsey who can provide some offensive help on the PP. Then on trade deadline day, the Sens had an opportunity to pick-up one of the GM's favourite and pulled a gutsy deal heading down the stretch which saw defensive specialist Malik and playmaking centre Doug Weight leave town to bring in all-star defenceman Scott Neidermayer and veteran centre Joe Neiuwendyke.

Currently coach Lowe is working with his match-up to see where the new guys best fit into the line-up. But adding Neidermayer should prove to be a big pick-up for the play-off run.
