Pierre's ongoing S6 waiver draft notebook

Welcome all and one to my RSHL waiver draft notebook. As the picks are announced on the conference call between the 30 RSHL GMs, I will chime in with my two cents on the pickups and those dropped in the waiver draft.

Round #1

1. NJD – Selection: Greg Zanon, Release: none

A smart pick to kick things off for the Devils. New Jersey needs a d-man to fill out their roster and Zanon will play in the team's top six. Not to mention he has a cheap contract, the Devils filled a need here.

2. NAS – Selection: Michael Leighton, Release: none

A slight surprise in the fact that Nashville selected a RFA, but another team looking to fill a hole that they have going into S7. Nashville may be able to parlay Leighton into an entry draft pick if they choose not to match an offer sheet or they will wind up with a solid backup.

3. FLA – Selection: Curtis McElhinney, Release: Brad Larsen

A trend here in the top three, teams filling holes that they have going into the season. Curtis is cheap on a long-term deal and the Panthers aren't very deep in goal. They drop Larsen who is older and at the bottom of the teams depth chart, so don't expect him to get picked up so fast.

4. MON – Selection: Stephane Veilleux, Release: none

A bit of a jump on my charts, but Veilleux has some solid reserve forward qualities. Reliable both defensively and durability wise, he is a cheap option that can be brought up and down without much worry. Hurts Calgary as they lose a depth piece they could have used this season.
