Forwards: A lot was made of the acquisition of center Mark Scheifele from the Edmonton Oilers and it's safe to say he hasn't lived up to expectations, at least not yet. Scheifele is a dynamic player with an incredible combination of size and talent. The Bruins are hoping it's just a matter of time before he starts to show what he is really capable of doing. If there's any indication of this happening, he had 3 assists in his last game against the Dallas Stars in a 4-3 victory. While Scheifele is still adjusting to his new team, veteran winger Kyle Palmieri has fit in quite easily on the second line with Brock Nelson and Brandon Hagel. Palmieri stepped up not only on the score sheet, he's currently tied for second in points with Zach Hyman but also in the locker room and is displaying some great leadership qualities. Not bad for a washed up old man. Zach Hyman leads the team in goals with 10 but the Bruins are hoping for more from him and the rest of the offensive group.

Defense: The defense for Boston has come as advertised with a core that is experienced, fast, and have the ability to not only shut down opponents but add to the offense as well. They are led on the back end by veteran and captain John Carlson. While not putting up the numbers as in previous season, head coach Don Cherry has no hesitation as to who will be on his first pairing. Carlson's partner Noah Hanifin is a steady force on the blueline and is a good complimentary partner for Carlson. The second pairing of Josh Morrissey and Aaron Ekblad offer size and speed that make the second line a almost a first line with their reliable and steady play. Vladislav Gavrikov and Brandon Carlo are blueline rocks and have become the shutdown duo for the Bruins. Their calm and stout play make life easier for the goalies and they're more than willing to lay the body on you and clear the crease. Boston's defense is the least of their worries.

Goaltending: While the defense maybe the strength of the Bruins, it could be said their goaltending can't be that far behind. The other piece that came over with Mark Scheifele was none other than Connor Hellebuyck. He has come in and shown why he is considered one of the best goalies in the league and Boston couldn't be blamed for riding him in the early going of the season. He's 3rd in GAA and 4th in sv%. Playing him too much may have been a worry but backup Alex Lyon has stepped up when called upon going 3-0-2 in relief of Hellebuyck. It must be comforting to know that your backup can be counted on to come through and give the starter a well earned rest when called upon.

Synopsis: Boston started out strong but have wavered a little of late but we are hoping to get back to playing the kind of hockey Boston has become known for. Hard, tough, grinding defensive hockey.
