What's the deal with the Hartford Whalers? They were cruising along, undefeated, and now they've lost two games in a row. It's like they forgot how to play hockey. And who did they lose to this time? The Pittsburgh Penguins, who are on a hot streak with their third consecutive win. Both teams are sitting in second place in their divisions, so it's not all bad, but come on, Whalers!

The game started off with Mason Appleton scoring for the Whalers at 11:32 in the first period. It was a nice goal, assisted by Kartye and Hathaway. But then, of course, we had some penalties. Damon Severson got a minor for hooking, and Matthew Tkachuk got a minor for charging. It's like these guys can't help themselves.

Second period, Sean Couturier scored for the Penguins at 13:43, assisted by Granlund and Jensen. And then the penalties really started piling up. Tkachuk got another minor for cross-checking, Couturier got a double minor for elbowing, and Anthony Beauvillier got a minor for elbowing. Tage Thompson decided to go all out and got a double minor for high-sticking and a game misconduct. Matthew Tkachuk had to serve the penalty. It's like a penalty parade out there.

Third period, the Penguins took over. Filip Forsberg scored a power-play goal at 01:20, assisted by Jensen and Stecher. Milan Lucic scored at 10:33, assisted by Ekholm and Broberg. Meanwhile, the Whalers were just skating around, wondering what went wrong.

David Rittich was solid in goal for the Penguins, stopping 20 out of 21 shots. Jacob Markstrom for the Whalers stopped 17 out of 20 shots. Not exactly a stellar performance.

Power plays? Penguins went 1 for 3, Whalers went 0 for 2. Special teams were a bit of a mess.

Game stars? David Rittich, Sean Couturier, and Nick Jensen. Congrats, you did good.

And let's not forget Ilya Solovyov, who made his season debut and finished minus 1. Welcome to the team, buddy.

Attendance was 16,894, and the net profit was over a million bucks. So at least someone's happy.

And that's the game. Whalers drop their second in a row, Penguins keep winning. Hockey, man. You never know what's gonna happen.
