Hartford Whalers Continue Unbeaten Streak with Win Over Dallas Stars

So, the Hartford Whalers are on a roll, right? They just can't lose. It's like they're allergic to losing. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars are out there like, "What is winning? Is it a new app we haven't downloaded yet?"
The game started off with a whole lot of nothing. No scoring in the first period. Just a bunch of guys skating around, occasionally bumping into each other. Matthew Tkachuk decided to get a little too friendly with his stick and got a minor for cross-checking at 08:22. Classic Tkachuk.
Second period, things finally got interesting. Tage Thompson decided he was done with the zeroes and scored an unassisted goal at 10:36. Then, just to rub it in, Mason Appleton scored another one less than a minute later, assisted by Desharnais and Cirelli. Tkachuk, not learning his lesson, got another minor for high-sticking at 18:48. Someone get this guy a rule book.
Third period, the Stars remembered they were supposed to be playing hockey. Nick Leddy scored their first goal at 10:20, assisted by Vilardi and Horvat. But the Whalers were like, "Nah, we're good," and Mark Stone scored at 13:12, assisted by Ferraro and Desharnais. Vilardi tried to keep the Stars in it with a goal at 15:54, but then MacKenzie Weegar sealed the deal with an empty-netter at 19:53, assisted by Heiskanen and Backlund.
Simeon Varlamov was solid in goal for the Whalers, stopping 19 of 21 shots. Thatcher Demko, on the other hand, might want to consider a new career. He stopped 17 of 21 shots. Ouch.
Power plays? Yeah, they were a thing. Whalers went 0 for 1, Stars went 0 for 2. Not exactly a special teams clinic.
Game stars? Mark Stone, Vincent Desharnais, and Gabriel Vilardi. Congrats, you did good.
Oh, and Kaapo Kakko got hurt in his season debut. Because of course he did. Welcome back, buddy.
Attendance was 18,000, and the net profit was over a million bucks. So at least someone's winning.
And that's the game. Whalers keep their unbeaten streak alive, and the Stars... well, they keep doing whatever it is they're doing.
