The Vancouver Canucks closed out their season today with a 5-1 win over Minnesota. The Canucks finished with 111 points this season good for third place overall in the standings, but only fourth place in the conference with Home. I advantage clinched the Canucks will have to wait to find out if they are hosting the ducks or sharks in the first round.
Canucks, Captain Quinn Hughes late season struggles left him unable to rewrite the defenceman record books. An assist today did help him add his name along with Brent Burns for the all-time single-season assist record with 80 but fans were sad to see him only flirt with 100 point plateau and fall five point short.
Winger Kirill Kaprizov late season injury saw his career best point totals halt at 51 goals and 104 points. With only a few days left he still leads the Rocket Richard race, but can only wait watch now to see if he can claim the coveted award. He took a massive step this year as the Canucks fans hoped he would be the future star left winger to take over for Alex Ovechkin when he hangs up his skates. Ovechkin will have to wait for a big party next year as he fell for goals, shy this season of becoming the first player to hit the 800 gold mark.
The Canucks will ride a five game winning streak into the playoffs and take their RHL best offence in hopes of repeating as Stanley Cup champions. Fans Hope
Kirill Kaprizov will be healthy enough to start game one as they will need everyone on top of their game to take out either the ducks or the sharks who have both had massive seasons themselves.
Good luck to the rest of the league in the final few days and into the playoffs. You’re gonna need it.
