The Sharks have at least temporarily taken over the top spot in the Dionne Division with a 5-2 win today over the Ducks. They have 3 games left to hold onto the lead and are hoping that they get more performances like today from their star players to close out the year and retain the Division crown.
The biggest game of the year for the Sharks came today trailing the Ducks by a point in the standings and a chance to be in charge of their own destiny. Big games need big performances from your star players and team Captain and Sharks Star Nathan MacKinnon didn’t disappoint. He led the team to victory with a hat trick and a statement that this is his team now and the division should go back to who it rightly belongs.
MacKinnon was handed the captaincy after the departure of Sid Crosby and was placed as the heir apparent for the 1st line C spot. Though he was doing a bit above average he wasn’t doing as well as the Sharks had hoped. This all changed when the Sharks changed him to RW and gave Eichel the 1st line C spot and put Hertl on the left side. Playing with such talent has really brought out the best in MacKinnon and given the Sharks an entirely different look.
At the time of writing this the Sharks hold the top spot in the Dionne and 2nd spot in the west trailing only the Oilers. With 3 games left the Sharks will be hoping the team can finish strong to keep their current momentum going into the playoffs where a new goal of maybe winning a round will be next. Even if we aren’t able to fend off the Ducks and end up losing the division we are happy with having been on top for at least today. MacKinnon and company might not give up top spot so easily though.
