Blackhawks Deadline Recap: 22 Trades, 30 Picks, and a Surging Team Identity
July 2, 2025 – Chicago, IL
With the dust now settled and a full week of games in the rearview, the Chicago Blackhawks are not only past the busiest RSHL trade deadline in franchise history — they’re thriving because of it.

From 22 trades, 13 new player additions, and 30 draft picks in hand, General Manager Dillon Anderson delivered a bold overhaul — and the early returns are exactly what fans hoped for.

GM Dillon Anderson:
“We were aggressive, but deliberate. We didn’t just make moves — we made our team stronger. And I think the way we’re playing right now speaks for itself.”

Since the deadline, the Blackhawks have picked up momentum, showing chemistry, energy, and identity that had been lacking earlier in the season.

18. CHI 2024 7th from TOR for Nick Bonino
19. Matthew Nieto from SEA for COL 2024 6th

Anderson:
“I know it’s a long list — but every move had a reason. Some were about leadership, others about youth, some about keeping flexibility. And look — now we’re winning hockey games.”

🗣️ Post-Deadline Surge
Since the moves, Chicago’s been rolling — solid goaltending, tighter defensive structure, and key contributions from newly added veterans.

Head Coach Travis Green:
“We’re a new team. Not just in names, but in mindset. Everyone is pulling in the same direction, and you can feel it. I’m loving how guys like Mayfield, Staal, and Järnkrok have stepped in and led right away.”

🧱 A Roster with Purpose
Veteran Leadership: Mike Amadio (Captain), Jordan Staal, Corey Perry, Luke Schenn

Youth Movement: Daniil Tarasov, Arvid Söderblom, Jordan Harris, Sawyer Mynio

Goaltending Stability: Korpisalo, Tarasov, Söderblom

Cap Space Remaining: $20M

Draft Picks Held: 30

Pending UFAs to Watch: Dadonov, Sundqvist, Cousins, Nieto, Vlasic

Amadio:
“We’re a lot harder to play against now. Everyone’s bought in. You can see it every shift — we’re deeper, tougher, and tighter. It feels like we’ve got something brewing here.”

🛠️ Free Agency Outlook
Chicago doesn’t hold any extension rights after trading away their last one, but with a $20M cap cushion, expect the team to be very active on July 1.

Anderson:
“We’ve got some guys we want to bring back — Dadonov and Sundqvist for sure — but we’re going to be players in free agency. This is only Phase 1. The draft and free agency are Phase 2.”

🏁 Final Word from the GM
Anderson:
“It’s been a wild ride — but the work was worth it. We aren’t chasing a playoff spot this year, but we are building a foundation. We’ve got our picks, we’ve got our cap room, and now — finally — we’ve got our identity back.”
