New York, NY - The Detroit Red Wings, fresh off a home win, traveled to face their divisional rivals, the New York Islanders, who despite the description, are currently sitting in 6th place in the Esposito Division with a .534 win percentage. In a surprising turn of events, the Red Wings orchestrated a significant comeback, scoring five unanswered goals after conceding the opener, to defeat the Islanders 5-2.

The first period saw the Islanders draw first blood, with Mika Zibanejad scoring his 16th of the season at 16:15, assisted by Jake McCabe and Max Domi. The Islanders also took two major penalties in the period, one for elbowing (Max Domi) and another for unsportsmanlike conduct (Jonas Brodin), but the Red Wings' power play failed to capitalize on either opportunity.

The second period was all Red Wings. Kevin Fiala kicked off the scoring barrage at 1:40 with his 11th goal, assisted by Jordan Eberle and Tim Stutzle. Joseph Veleno then put the Red Wings ahead at 10:53, scoring his 2nd goal with assists from John Ludvig and Dylan Larkin. The Red Wings continued their offensive push, as Jordan Eberle netted his 13th of the season at 18:20, with Fiala and Stutzle picking up their second assists of the night. The Islanders also received another major penalty for kicking (Vince Dunn), but again, Detroit's power play couldn't convert.

The third period saw a brief glimmer of hope for the Islanders when Vince Dunn scored his 7th goal at 15:26, assisted by Nick Suzuki and Artemi Panarin, cutting the lead to 4-2. However, the Red Wings quickly extinguished that hope. Just 31 seconds later, Robby Fabbri buried his 15th of the year at 15:57, with Larkin and Vincent Trocheck assisting. Dylan Larkin then sealed the dominant win with an empty-net goal, his 30th of the season, at 19:12, assisted by Trocheck and Erik D. Gustafsson. The Islanders' Jake McCabe also picked up a minor for hooking in the period.

Martin Jones was solid in net for the Red Wings, stopping 22 of 24 shots to earn his 5th win of the season (5-3-0). For the Islanders, Juuse Saros took the loss, making 21 saves on 26 shots (24-8-0). Anthony Stolarz entered the game in relief for the Islanders in the final minute, but faced no shots. The Red Wings went 0 for 4 on the power play, while the Islanders had no power play opportunities.

Dylan Larkin, with a goal and two assists, was named the first star of the game. Kevin Fiala's goal and two assists earned him the second star, and Vincent Trocheck's two assists rounded out the game's three stars.

The Red Wings showed resilience on the road, overcoming an early deficit and a heavily penalized Islanders team to secure a convincing win against a divisional foe.
