With just eight days remaining before the RSHL trade deadline, the Chicago Blackhawks have made a key move, acquiring veteran forward Corey Perry from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2025 RSHL Draft.

The 40-year-old winger brings championship experience, a physical edge, and valuable leadership to a young Blackhawks roster in the midst of a rebuild. Perry had struggled to find ice time in Toronto this season but is now expected to play a larger role in Chicago.

“Corey is exactly the type of player we were looking for,” said Blackhawks General Manager Dillon Anderson. “He brings leadership, compete, and a willingness to do the dirty work. We’ve got a lot of young talent here, and someone like Corey can help push them to the next level.”

For Perry, the trade represents a chance to re-establish his presence on the ice.

“It was tough not getting into games in Toronto,” Perry admitted. “But I still have the drive, and I still want to compete. Chicago might be rebuilding, but I’m excited to play a bigger role and help out wherever I can.”

GM Anderson also revealed that the Perry trade is just one part of a bigger plan as the Blackhawks look to get ahead of the curve.

“I’ve been on the phone all day,” said Anderson. “We’re trying to get some of our off-season shopping done now, while the market’s still moving. If we can handle some of those decisions before the deadline, then we can shift our full focus to finalizing our draft board and preparing for the future.”

While Chicago may not be a playoff contender this season, the front office is clearly laying the groundwork for the years ahead. Perry’s presence gives the Blackhawks a proven voice in the locker room and a battle-tested competitor on the bench.

“Whether he’s out there every night or helping guide guys behind the scenes, Corey’s impact will be felt immediately,” Anderson added. “He’s here to compete, and that’s the mindset we want across our entire roster.”

With the trade deadline approaching, expect more potential movement out of Chicago as Anderson and his staff continue working to shape the future of the franchise.
