Re: Line integrity

Ok good start, I will add a few comments. Currently the simulator has no automatic process to "auto" certain lines, this is a manual process, which is doable. The only option for "autoing" is a blanket across the board for all lines.

The line average is an interesting thought, that currently is a calculation as the page loads, using Detroit as the example, and only focusing on OV

Line 1: 78
Line 2: 77
Line 3: 73
Line 4: 77

Averages might be too broad to focus on, because look at line 4, it's higher then 3 because I am duplicating some better guys on the least icetime.

Goalie CD, I can see somethning like this working, there has to be some allowance between starter and backup, and for sake of this discussion, the highest OV rated goalie is the starter. any 3rd tier should be used sparingly, likely to help with injury troubles.

Goalie waivers, so fine using NYI as the example, he should have to forgo someone for a mere pittance even though he had the forsight to plan ahead and acquire these guys? They are chips he can move for other positions, yes, or might want to continue to hold as no one really knows what will happpen from year to year.

I agree with majority of what was said however I still think goalies should go through waivers with the same rules as everyone else. I will use the islanders and Avs as examples with no offence to either.

Islanders have fairly played with in the rules and have 5 goalies that can all be starters in any given season if they were to have a good NHL season. This could lead to him having 5 80ov goalies at some point.

I know that Brett is from Vancouver and is a hockey fan so he must be aware of the current NHL Canucks goalie situation. With Silovs playing so well with Abbotsford the Canucks are likely going to be trading either Demko or Lankinen. That’s what is done when you have 3 goalies that can all play in the NHL. Now imagine if they had 5

The Avs have a more realistic goalie situation with a obvious starter , backup and 3rd stringer but they also have Dustin Wolf whose rate this year wouldn’t be of much use to them on their roster but next year when he re rates to something useful shouldn’t he be allowed to come of the farm and push the Avs to deal one of their other goalies to one of the teams that need one?

How does this matter?
Because if the NYI had to make his goalies over 73ov clear waivers like all other players it would force a trade or for him to eat some cap space by bringing them up to pro roster.
If he chooses to eat cap space that’s fine, more deals would need to be made to ensure he had the space. If he decides to trade that’s fine too cause it makes a bigger pool of goalies for others to try and obtain and limits the need for emergency goalies.

When a young forward or D is rated lower then 73 and is on the farm and then has a breakout NHL year and rates 80+ should he be allowed to stay on the farm for any reason whatsoever?

I think would be extremely beneficial to the league to change this goalie rule to match the rest of the players.

As for line integrity.

Very simple, the rule states play your best players teams that don’t should be given a strike

As far as playing a backup/lower rated goalie in an attempt to lower your draft pick and better your odds that’s garbage to me. If you want to rebuild then trade away your rated players and start fresh to go for 1st overall. Don’t accidentally on purpose play a lower rated goalie more in hopes he loses you games. Punishment should be draft picks or extensions if that occurs in a blatant manner. As far as monitoring goes other g.ms that have lottery picks are probably and should be watching for egregious violations to this.

I rambled enough while waiting for my son to get in the damn car so I’m done. Sorry for typos and such

Ok thank you very much, this is way more valuable than just "because" type of response. With your explanation, I can see some consideration, but not as far as you'd like. I am in full agreement about not burying high end talent, that doesn't fly. I have a hard time quanitifying my reason but here is a try.

On our roster of 50 players, all the skaters are vying for a spot in 1 of 18 slots. any goalies are limited to 2. Smaller opportunity to be using others for more than injury coverage, which is the real reason we MUST have at least a 3rd tier goalie. Just a hypothetical number if a goalie was rated 77+ that might be a reason to force waivers and push someone to be moved. Lets be honest here with the current NHL Canucks situation, we are going to see someone move because the management can't walk from making a deal.

Keeping the conversation about goalies, for all intensive purposes, your highest OV goalie is your starter, even if you feel he's undeserving of the title, on your team he is, should the starter be expected to be dress for 51% of games? With a set of guidlines the site can monitor and look for situations, the type of thing that Derek tried doing a few years ago and got heat for it. The site is very black and white, all about the logic.

It’s tricky
Because the back up should be taken into consideration.
Ie having an 80 and a 79 back up I don’t think anyone would have any problem with 50/50 work load.
But what if it’s an 80 and a 66 back up.

Maybe something written in there about how far off their rate is 🤷‍♂️
If off by one 50/50 fine
If by 2 55/45

Right this is about coming up with the framework to watch for.

Watch for tripe/quadruple shifs on regular line.
Watch for double shifting on special lines

Goalies

determine difference between highest OV and 2nd highest OV

Example RedWings
Georgiev 79
Jones 77

Georgiev 46GP
Jones 12GP

Example Rangers
Primeau 77
Gibson 73
Comrie 66

Primeau 28GP
Gibson 22GP
Comrie 12GP

I feel like both of theses examples are withing a good range

Might be more to focus on CD rather than just straight calculation.

I think that there are too many variables for trying to monitor how many games the better goalie should play and trying to track that is probably better with an email saying hey why are you playing your 65ov goalie so much. If it continues to happen then take appropriate measures.

As far as line integrity goes again that is a tricky one, not everyone will agree on how to do lines. I had my worst LW on my top line in an attempt to balance my lines earlier in the season and I think it is or at least should be obvious that I’m trying to make the playoffs.

I would suggest let g.ms do whatever they like with players (not including goalies) as long as they are playing, no benching Mcdavid but if you want to put him as a 3rd Line C go ahead and after the 40 game mark teams that are x amount of points out of a playoff spot get their lines auto

Teams that are trying to win or make playoffs will not be doing any lines that could be in question and teams that are hoping for the best lottery odds and don’t care about playoffs are getting lines auto for 40 games so nobody can complain about what others are doing

Just spitballing so take it leave up to Brett

Ok, I can accept that, the only thing is I"m not looking to add more work for myself, as in "why are you playing that guy so much", nothing wrong with you saying it. Ultimately I'm sick and tired of the seemingly constant whining now, I've not seen anything that warrants the concern that is going on with it now. My phone has been blowing up from difffernt guys and taking up ENTIRELY TOO MUCH OF MY SANITY.

I have no intentions to dictate how lines are employed, only want to watch for things like triple shifting, and quadruple shifting for example. The specific make up, should be the GM determination, otherwise, whats the point? All human contact can be removed and all lines can be automatically set by the simulator.
