"The Seattle Kraken are extremely proud to announce that we've acquired Rick DiPietro from the Vancouver Canucks for Corey Hirsch to lead us out of the rebuild and into the future."
In a stunning move, shaking the RSHL landscape to its core, the Seattle Kraken have acquired the former NHL number one overall pick as their goaltender of the future.
In a statement to local reporters, the Kraken front office said the following:
"It's not often you get the opportunity to acquire a player of Rick's stature. And really, all we had to do was get rid of a guy that hasn't played in the NHL since 2003. To be honest, we didn't even know he was in our system. So we're pretty proud of ourselves for outright fleecing Canucks."
A local beat reported enquired as to why Kraken leadership felt that a 43 year old goaltender who last played in the NHL in 2013 and won less than 45% of his career starts was the goalie to lead them into the future. Kraken ownership was immediately taken aback and a single tear fell down the face of the GM as he stuttered "wait, what..." and walked off stage muttering something about the Canucks ripping him off again.
I guess tack on another year onto the rebuild.
