Bos(AP) - Another trade between the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks has Bruin fans buzzing. This time Boston GM Andrew Stoll may have out done himself in acquiring hockey legend Sidney Crosby. The deal was struck after some negotiating and number crunching but it seems to have worked out well for both clubs. Going to Vancouver is center Mark Schiefele and winger Kyle Palmeri. Here are some takes from the press conference held earlier today.
GM Stoll: "Thank you all for being here. I won't take too much of your time but I thought I needed to address the circumstances that has led to this trade. A couple of weeks ago I made a move to help bolster our defense by adding Roman Josi to our defensive core. While he has been effective since his arrival I found that we still weren't getting the punch we needed from our offense. I wanted to bring in someone who would make an impact right away, who could bring not only a wealth of experience but also the kind of leadership that can't be ignored. I believe I have found that type of player in Sidney Crosby and I'm looking forward to seeing him in action. Everybody respects Sidney wither he's on your team or not. He commands the room and the ice and I believe we are better for it.", Bruins GM Andrew Stoll.
Crosby was reached for his comments about the trade to bring him to Boston. "It's funny because I found out about it when I was on a call to Josi (former Vancouver team mate Roman Josi). My agent let me know what had happened and then switched back to Josi to tell him and he didn't believe me lol. He told me there's a great bunch of guys here and everyone wants to win so bad. I'm a little sad to be leaving Vancouver but this is just another opportunity to continue my career in a great original six city."
Roman Josi, a former teammate when the two played together in Vancouver was reached for his comments. " When Sidney told me he was coming to Boston I couldn't believe it. We laughed so hard! He is almost larger than life. He does things the honest way. He's an incredible figure in the locker room and his work ethic is second to none. His enthusiasm for the game just rubs off on everyone. Boston fans are going to love this guy."
Now it's time for this team to start playing like a playoff team and not just going through the motions. There were no expectations last year, this year Boston has to show it was no fluke.
Sid the Kid now a Bruin.
