BOS(AP) - Alex Ovechkin scored midway through the third period to break a 4-4 tie as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Boston 6-4 last night in a rematch of the Stanley Cup Finalists. The Bruins came out quickly bolstered by the home crowd at the Garden. Brandon Hagel opened the scoring just 4 minutes into the fray and things looked good. It was back and forth hockey as the teams traded chances and decided to give their respective coaches gray hairs. Kirill "The Thrill" Kaprizov even the score before Noah Hanifin who would net his 4th of the season gave Boston back the lead ending the first period.
Brock Nelson would give the home side a 3-1 lead but Vancouver wouldn't break. 3 successive goals by Kaprizov, Draisaitl, and David Pastrnak would give the Canucks the lead heading into the final frame. Hagel again would find the back of the net to even the score early in the period as the Bruins looked to try and control the pace of the game. Vancouver had other ideas however as Alex Ovechkin would break the tie with his 4th of the young season. Boston couldn't get anything going and when they did, Charlie Lindgren was there to close the door. While the Bruins were out shooting the Canucks the period was a close checking affair with Vancouver trying to close out the game. Sidney Crosby would ice the game at 19:29 slipping the puck into the empty net. It was a very entertaining game even though the home crowd left disappointed.
Having lost 2 games in a row for the first time this season the Bruins look to get back on track as they travel to Washington to take on the Capitals who have won 3 straight games. It is expected to be a very hard non optional practice tomorrow in preparation for Sunday's game.
