Biggest Pay Day?

With FA just around the corner, who is in line to get the biggest pay day? UFA and RFA?

No real suspens here with no UFA of any significant value and all possible RFA being easily matched.

Chara, Goligoski and Brown get 10 mil

Wow ! We are at that point! Boom ! 10 millions for these guys!

A few RFAs are going to score too

who puts the RF big on torey Krug or Tyler Myers?

And then get easily matched ! We should just be able to pre-sign our own RFAs and make more UFAs available instead..You really want the RFA, make a trade! Gone are the upset GM that receive an offer sheet. Bringing more LOVE in the RSHL!

If we can only pre-sign RFAs then UFAs will be worthless in trade value. We already have enough trouble with "potential" being valued more than what is.

Sidney Crosby or Alexandre Ovechkin will always has good value! What if the GM who has the rights of the UFA has the chance to match the offer! Just a new way of thinking free agency! :)

Sorry if I wasn’t clear in the previous text but when I talked about matching, I also meant the possibility of making a deal with the highest bidder to make sure he doesn’t bid higher in the next round.

The current system though limited is very effective. with a hard cap and limited resigns, one must manage their team.

I know RFA salaries tend to stay low...but UFA spending is crazy...worse than the NHL...so it balances. And how often do we see hockey trades in the NHL anymore? It's all about contracts, cap space, and balancing out salaries in trade. Is that what we really want for us too? This is supposed to be just for fun.

Just want to be honest here. Not sure if I’m exchanging thoughts with only one GM here but this is one of the best talk I have had in years here. I’ll be curious to find out how many GMs really think that our current free agency process works well, brings excitement and allows more players movement, makes GMs really work their ass off and it’s fun! If the answer is yes, I’ll stop talking right now.

I think it works well. Always willing to look at ways to make it better...but not change just for change.

I think bids on Ufas should only be allowed by non playoff teams. They should also be allowed to trade them. This would close the gap faster for them and create better league balance.

honestly thats an interesting idea, not sure how realistic it might, but interesting

Not sure if we talked about it before but why cant we set the new salary based on the new OV after rerates? An RFA gets an 82OV after rerates, we look into a preset chart and it says 82OV = 6.5 millions. Or maybe we take that 6.5 and make an average with the previous salary. It works either way even if the player decrease in OV

I like that idea about how only UFAs can be bid on by non-playoff teams. It would for sure shake up the market plus it would also increase RFA activity as the teams who made the playoffs would have to seriously consider that as an option. Who do we need to talk to for this?

How about allowing only 1 UFA presign per team, per year? According to this year free agency page, they are a very few amount of team that presigned 2 or 3 UFAs. Leni presigned 4 RFAs.
