Winnipeg Jets - S18

Stay at Home with Ken Daneyko

Welcome back to another edition of Stay at Home with Ken Daneyko. I'm Ken Daneyko, and I'm her with the GM of the Winnipeg Jets, Sean McAndrews. Sean, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be here today and talk everything Jets.

Sean, what rought you to the RSHL? Where are you from?

Sean: GM Vince Gibbons and I run a sim league together. He joined the RSHL and suggested I look into it as well.

How is your family adapting in the world with this Pandemic going on?

Sean: Pretty good. Kids are in school which helps as my wife and I both have busy jobs. Getting sick of doing push ups to try to stay in shape but do enjoy my lunchtime hot tubs.

Did you play hockey growing up or coach the sports?

Sean: Yep grew up Red Deer, Alberta and played a bit of junior. Coach my sons U9 team which is great (except season was just cancelled).

Who is your favourite NHL Hockey team and why?

Sean: Flames. Spent a lot of my life in Calgary. Season ticket holder.

If you are a sports enthusiast, what is your take on how the NBA handled the Kevin Durant situation during the most recent game vs the Raptors, with Mr Durant being pulled in and out of the game with a both negative and positive Covid test?

Sean: Super odd. No idea how they allowed that to happen. Not really a basketball guy but it was really weird.

Did you have a personal goals going into this season with the Jets, and do you believe you have achieved those goals at the mid ppoint of the season?

Sean: Yeah for sure. When I joined I wasn’t very impressed with the roster outside of Scheiffle, O’Reilly and a couple of the D. I like building through youth and there wasn’t much there so trading some center depth for help on the wings and some high picks was the goal. I was hoping to stay competitive and managed to do just that (so far).

What's your take on the RSHL draft?

Sean: I like it. Not sticking solely to players drafted in the current year NHL draft makes it a little different and a little deeper. Was really happy to nab Caulfield, Kaliyev, and a few guys I took later.

What's your take on the RSHL free agency system?

Sean: I haven’t been through it yet. It will be something I have to take some time to understand.

Reverse arbitration? Are we using it in a realistic fashion? Or does make it too easy for player retention long term?

Sean: Same answer as above.

Name an all-time NHL WInnipeg jets first line that consists of a LW, C, RW, 2 d-men and a goalie?

Sean: LW Bobby Hull, C Dale Howerchuk, RW Teemu Selanne, D Phil Housley, D Dustin Byfuglien, G Connor Hellebuyck. Honourable mentions to Blake Wheeler who leads the franchise in games/goals/etc due to his longevity. Keith Tkachuk was also a thought at center and Bob Essensa got some thought in goal as did Toby Enstrom on D.

Who in your mind is the greatest top three RW'er's in the history of the NHL?

Sean: Jagr, Howe and Iginla. Iginla is a homer pick but he is 9th in NHL RW scoring and you could argue he did a lot more than some of the other guys on the list. Mike Bossy should probably be there as he has almost as many points in a bout half the games but whatever.

Name three things about the RSHL that you love?

Sean: the GMEditor is pretty slick, seems to be a good level of engagement with GMs, and the fact that I am winning on most nights (or a lot of ties)!

Name two things about the RSHL that drives you bonkers and you wish could be either or abolished?

Sean: I haven’t really come across anything yet to be honest.

Are you developing any rivalries in the RSHL?

Sean: Had a good fight filled matchup with the Avs and the Dionne Division is super tight so I’m sure a few will develop there.

Any out of the box ideas that you have that you believe would help benefit the league as a whole?

Sean: Not yet, still learning how things work.

Where do you see the Jets in the next two years?

Sean: Better group of young players that can hopefully fill the gap when some of the older guys start to drop off. Might take a little longer than two years to really get a strong pipeline moving but that’s the objective.

What's your take on the Anthony Deangelo situation in the NHL as it pertains to the New York Rangers?

Sean: Don’t blame the Rangers for taken the actions they did. Sounds like he just isn’t a good person or good team mate but the talent is there and I am sure someone else will take a look at him again but it might not be this year. Wish I hadn’t just traded for him in the RSHL!

Any shouts outs to the leagues?

Sean: Just wanted to say thanks to Brett and the rest of the GMs for welcoming me aboard and not sending too many low ball offers to the new guy. Still figuring some things out as I mentioned so bare with me but so far so good. Keep the trade offers coming!

Thank you Sean for taking the time to speak to us today. Sincerely appreciated. A man of few words and to the point.

There you have it folks, the GM of the Jets, Sean McAndrews. Up next, the GM of the LA Kings, Lucas Mattiello.

Till next time, be safe and Stay at Home with me, Ken Daneyko.
