Part 2... THE BAD

Postby Dreger » Mon Feb 26, 2007 10:46 am

Darren here with what it sure to be a very fine part 2 of the RSHL season.... THE BAD.....

Chad Kilger... can this guy just find a home to play in.. or at least a team he can call his home. Being traded 5 times in since last July, hopefully this guy hasn't purchased a home as who knows with the trade deadline he may even be dealt for a 6th time this season

Marek Zidlicky not known for his fighting prowless in the nhl.. has amassed a whopping 22 fights so far this season.. and of course since he doesnt' look like a fighter theres no surprise that he has lost 4 of those fights the most among RSHL enforcers this season.

Colorado and their strikes... With about a good 1/3 left in the season including playoffs, the AVS gm stands at 4 strikes... of course we are not sure what the strikes are being awarded for but one more and we could have a vacancy with in the league. And considering Colorado is a good team this season im sure the GM doesn't want to get booted after the hard work building a team that is likely to compete for a stanley cup final berth.

The power rankings..... Is it just me or did both Bill Clement and myself find it not useful to continue writing in reports each week for the power rankings.. The rankings are still there each and every week... but as an excuse for myself.. i just dont have many things to say every week about every team... Im not a scout, im just an anaylist (oh wait i m suppose to be analyzing each team its my job) oh well sorry about that folks.

Goaltending has not been the best so far this year.. Only 5 goalies are able to maintain a save percentage of over .900 and surprisingly Brodeur is not amonst that group. He is sitting at a .896 save %, where as if you see who the leader is.. and no offence to Nashville but Aebischer leading the league is a bit bizarre if you ask me.

Staying with goalies, how about Anaheim.. are they going to replace Legace at all this season, poor guy has started EVERY single game this season. Patrick Lalime, who still has seen 16 games cause Legace has been pulled is just biting at the chance to start a game and give the starter a rest.. Maybe a rest will be the key to jump start the team back into the playoff hunt.

Poor Chicago, not one guy with 20 goals this season, not only player with over 40 points. Where has all the offence gone. What makes matters worse if they can't seem to figure out who they want starting the net each game as both Danis and Garon both have equal amount of games played. The windy city could be seeing some tough times ahead.

Suspensions.. many teams usually have a guy or two that might get an instigating penalty and receive a one game suspension. but we have seen high amounts of 4 or 5 game suspensions this season from teh likes of Niedermeyer(rob), Donovan, Tkachuk, Roy(derek), Regher, Jovo cop, Horton, Lecavalier to name a few but kudos to the Islanders and Kings as they are the only 2 teams not to have a guy suspended so far this season.. Fair play team award maybe???

Jason Williams of the Florida Panther leads the league is a great stat.. NOT.... he is by far the worst in the plus minus category at a horrid -28 but he is closely contested for that award.. by whom..... teammate Jason Pominville with a -27.

Who's hot or who's cold is always a great stat to look at..... but earlier this season Brandon Witt went an amazing 51 games with just 1 point but that cold streak is finally over now leading the pack is Dallas Drake of Detroit with only 1 goal in 21 games OUCH! as for Goalies is concerned Martin Biron is 1-11 in last 12 games he has started.

That's it for the BAD so far this season.. part 3.... THE UGLY and it will be a doozie

Bad? Not so fast, Cowboy...

Acording to analyst Don Dreger, the Chicago Blackhawks are "bad." I will concede that the record is pretty poor, but labeling our franchise as bad may be jumpingthe gun.

[quote]Poor Chicago, not one guy with 20 goals this season, not only player with over 40 points. Where has all the offence gone. What makes matters worse if they can't seem to figure out who they want starting the net each game as both Danis and Garon both have equal amount of games played. The windy city could be seeing some tough times ahead.

Chicago traded 27 goal scorer Shawn Bates to San Jose for a former first round pick in Devin Setoguchi. Shawn Bates provided Chicago much excitement and offense during the season, but he did not fit in with our plans. To get a first round pick that is the #2 prospect on the NHL's San Jose Sharks (and rated an 8.0B) is a perfect fit for our club's direction. Playing for the Saskatoon Blades, Setoguchi dominated the CHL Top Prospects Skills Showcase, including his 96 MPH shot on net. He also set new career high point totals in the WHL. Of course, he needs maturation, but who among us didn't at 19 years old?

Chicago also traded 19 goal scorer, and 46 point earner Jason Allison to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In return, Chicago got Adam Mair, a servicable center for our rebuilding years, defenseman Matt Jones, and prospect defenseman Andy Rogers. Andy Rogers (another NHL 1st round pick) is the #1 prospect for the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning, and is expected to crack the big leagues next season. Another hard-shooter, Rogers shot was clocked at 96.8 MPH during the 2004 Top Prospects Game. A tall defenseman needing to grow into his frame, he has played in the U18 Junior World Cup and on the silver medal winning Canadian National Under-18 Team in 2004. Rogers is an outstanding skater, and a very physical defender. Watch this kid hit, and hope your player isn't the recipient. His offensive skills need quite a bit of improvement, but he has been working regularly on this area of his game. Alaso included was defender Matt Jones, listed as the #4 prospect for the NHL Phoenix Coyotes. This kid is a project, but is already playing at the NHL level (29 games in 06-07). TSN.ca places his career potential as a Top 4 dman.

Mike Rathje and Petr Nedved (both UFA's) were traded to the Montreal Canadians in a deal that sees center prospect Brian Boyle (the #3 prospect for the NHL LA Kings and 2003 1st round pick) and prospect defenseman Niklas Grossman (#5 prospect for the NHL Dallas Stars and 2004 2nd round pick) coming to Chicago. Boyle, a junior for Boston College, was second on the teak in goals (22), first in assists (30), and tied for ninth in the nation for points (52). Boyle also showed his overall athleticism by filling in onthe penalty kill as a defenseman. 6'7" and 235 pounds (at 22 years of age!), he is a good skater and tough to knock off the puck. He has power forward potential written all over him. Grossman has played as team captain for team Sweden at the 2005 WJC, and has honed his skills as a solid stay-at-home defenseman. There is a lot of work for this kid to develop into a top defender, and we hope he reaches his potential.

Earlier this year, Chicago traded star goalie JSG for Nathan Horton (3rd overall pick in in 2003) and Wojtek Wolski (1st round pick in 2004). I could talk ad naseum about how greatthese two players are, but judging by the 327 trade requests I received for them from the rest of the league, I will assume you already know about these guys.

Earlier this season, we also traded Michael Nylander and a 3rd for a 1st, a 2nd, and Erik Christiansen. We traded Visnovsky and Sillinger for Barrett jackman (also the subject of many trade inquiries), Nils Eckman, and 2 2nd round picks. TJ Oshie (the #2 prospect behing Erik Johnson for St. Louis Blues and a first round pick in 2005) came to us in exchange for a 2nd and a 3rd. Carl Soderberg (#9 prospect in St. Louis) was part of a deal for Stephane Robidas.

Bad? Maybe our record is bad this season, and will likely be again next season. But do the fans of Chicago have something to look forward to? Most definately, as these youngsters start to break the ranks in the RSHL. Not all of them will live up to their potential - we understand that. But with the future we are building, I see good things to come for the Blackhawks down the road.
